Neil Coombe
Neil Coombe, who mixed and mastered the album

The entire album Slide Rule was recorded at my home in Fountain Hills, Arizona. It was mixed and mastered by Neil Coombe at the White Room studios in Mt Nebo,Australia. I recorded everything using Pro Tools. I would send Neil discs of all the various tracks once I was finished and happy with them which he then in turn loaded onto his Pro Tools system and proceed to mix.

An M-Audio Firewire 1814 interface was used in conjunction with Pro Tools.

All electric guitar tracks, (slide and non slide), were recorded using a Fender Blues Junior 15 W tube amplifier. (The only exception was the electric guitar tracks on “By the Way” which were recorded direct input into the 1814).

All electric guitar tracks, (slide and non slide), all acoustic guitars, the bass guitar and all the vocal tracks went through “The Brick” a Groove Tube brand pre amp.

All bass tracks were recorded direct input via “The Brick” pre amp into the 1814. They were then re directed through a Fender Bassman amplifier by Neil Coombe at the White Room recording studios as part of the mixing process.

All acoustic guitar tracks and all vocal tracks were recorded with a Groove Tube GT55 condenser microphone.

For all the electric guitar tracks the Fender Blues Junior was miked up with either the GT55 or a Shure SM57 and in a few cases both. There were no effects pedals used on any of the guitar tracks on the album. All guitar sounds were achieved going straight through the Blues Junior utilizing the master volume/volume controls to obtain natural tone distortion when desired.

All the drum tracks were produced using a Zoom RhythmTrak RT-123. Each drum part was produced and recorded individually to enable maximum mixing potential. Neil Coombe worked extensively with a lot of the drum tracks and for this I am indebted

M-Audio BX8a monitors used and AKG K240 Studio head phones.

I use a Jim Dunlop brass slide. I most always “used” my fingers only when playing slide. However, since the completion of this album I am persevering and quickly getting adjusted to using a Jim Dunlop steel thumb pick and 2 Jim Dunlop steel finger picks.
